Life Cycle of the Sharks And Gestation Period

Minimum life cycle of the sharks is supposed to be 15 to 25 years in age and it can reach up to 100/150 years depending upon the shape and size of the respective sharks. Out of 370 species of the sharks recognized so far, 65% of them are viviparous marine creature while the remaining are oviparous, that is laying eggs in the sea. Viviparous sharks life cycle is bigger than the iviparous sharks.

Average gestation period of the female shark is 12 months. Highest gestation period of the female shark is counted to be 24 months. Viviparous shark instead of laying its eggs out of its body on the carpet of deep sea, rather hatch them inside a litter of its womb. The eggs hatch normally within 130 daysNewly born sharks numbering around 15 to 28 at a time are called the pups. So we can say that the life cycle of the Sharks can measured between 18 and 150 years in period.
